The most urgent task is that of the biblical and liturgical formation of the people of God..." ~ Pope John Paul II, Vicesimus Quintus Annus 15
The St. Therese Liturgy Committee works in consultation with the Pastoral Staff in the preparation and celebration of the liturgical seasons and the Sacraments. The committee also promotes the work and training of parishioners for liturgical ministries. The committee studies and keeps informed of the current policies and publications of the Liturgical Commission of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and continues to implement the work of Vatican Council II. Our goal is to offer the people of St. Therese Parish worship experiences that foster a loving relationship with Jesus Christ. We strive for our parish’s liturgical prayer life to be reverent, beautiful, and joyful in the Lord.
The revised General Instruction of the Roman Missal notes that since liturgy is the “primary and indispensable source from which the faithful are to derive the true Christian Spirit…the entire celebration is planned in such a way that it leads to a conscious, active and full participation of the faithful both in body and mind” (No. 17). Since the Liturgy of the Holy Eucharist is the “source and summit” (SC 11) of Christian life, the Liturgy Committee is actively and directly connected and concerned with all of the aspects of the liturgical and sacramental life of St. Therese Church.
The Liturgy Committee collaborates with the Pastor, the St. Therese Parish Pastoral Council, and the Office of Worship of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. It develops and establishes objectives to accomplish for the parish, with attention to the specific needs of our faith community and with fidelity to Roman Catholic norms.
The Liturgy Committee’s responsibilities are:
To discern the parish’s worship/liturgical/prayer needs;
To coordinate the planning and scheduling of the liturgical celebrations for seasonal and special celebrations;
To coordinate, support and evaluate all liturgical ministries in the parish, i.e., Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist, Altar Servers, Cantors, Musicians, etc.
To ensure compliance with the liturgical directives, guidelines, norms and policies of St. Therese Parish, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, and the Church Universal.
Membership: The Membership of the Liturgy Committee includes the Pastor and the heads of the various parish liturgical ministries, as well as parishioner representatives.
Please feel free to contact the Pastor, Fr. Philip Sullivan, with comments, ideas, etc. concerning the worship life at St. Therese Church.
